Young voices from Leigh Academy Molehill are making a powerful impact in the realm of online safety, thanks to a creative initiative led by our Vice Principal Mrs Jones.
Earlier in this module, Mrs Jones orchestrated a project that saw Year 6 pupils, with the invaluable support of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Kent, delve into the world of podcasting to educate their peers and the wider community about navigating the digital landscape safely.

This innovative approach has yielded remarkable results. One group of dedicated students has risen to the top, having their podcast selected as a finalist in a prestigious county-wide competition. This achievement is a testament to their hard work, insightful understanding of online safety issues, and their ability to communicate their message effectively through this engaging medium.
The public will soon have the opportunity to lend their support to these young digital pioneers. The public vote for the competition is set to commence on March 28th, offering everyone a chance to recognize the impactful work of these students.
The judges were clearly impressed by the calibre of entries received from schools across the county. In a statement highlighting the significance of this particular group’s selection, they noted, “The judges were impressed by the high standard of entries from all the participating schools and it’s a credit to those involved in this podcast that they have been selected, because their message was so powerful.” This commendation underscores the importance and effectiveness of the students’ podcast in addressing crucial online safety concerns.

Our young creators have crafted a compelling and persuasive piece of audio that resonates with listeners: https://youtu.be/eRSvWEEDlIo.
This initiative serves as a shining example of how young people can be empowered to become advocates for important issues. By providing them with the tools and platform to express their understanding and concerns about online safety and with the support of the Police and Crime Commissioner, we have fostered not only digital literacy but also crucial communication and teamwork skills.
As the public vote approaches, the community is encouraged to listen to the finalist’s podcast and recognize the dedication and talent of these Year 6 students. Their powerful message has already captured the attention of the judges, and with public support, it can reach an even wider audience, contributing significantly to a safer online environment for all. This is a story of young people making a real difference, one podcast at a time.
